Intellectual Ventures

Introduction

Intellectual Ventures, established in 2000 by former Microsoft executives, excels in intellectual property development and licensing. With an extensive portfolio of patents across diverse sectors, the company catalyses innovation by forming partnerships to bring new technologies to market. Its revenue model, centred on patent licensing, fuels continual reinvestment in fresh ideas and inventions, thereby nurturing technological advancement through effective IP exchange within the tech ecosystem.

Challenge

The objective was to establish an investment fund company in Ireland, focusing on patents on Electrical, Telco, Systems, and Renewable Energy. This initiative required a unique blend of expertise in these specific areas, presenting a significant challenge in the local market.

Mandate

Principle was exclusively retained to recruit a high-calibre senior executive team, along with technologists, engineers, and support staff in Ireland for Intellectual Ventures. The necessary skill sets, particularly in engineering disciplines such as Electronics, Systems, and Patent Engineering, were scarce locally. The project commenced with relocating two U.S. executives to Dublin, who worked closely with Principle to define the recruitment requirements and strategise the setup.

Solution

Principle tackled the challenge by leveraging a combination of international executive search and local market exploration. They utilised advanced recruitment tools, including early AI-driven products and a Video Interview Platform, which allowed for the efficient screening and interviewing of candidates globally. This approach enabled Principle to broaden their search and effectively evaluate candidates, ensuring only top-tier talent was considered for the roles.

Result

Through Principle’s adept use of advanced recruitment technologies and strategies, the team expanded from the initial two U.S. executives to a full complement of 20 skilled professionals. This team is now pivotal in propelling Intellectual Ventures’ strategic initiatives in the Electrical, Telco, Systems, and Renewable Energy sectors in Ireland, strengthening the company’s influence in the global tech landscape.
